Trump Considering Deployment of Ground Troops to Iran, U.S. Newspaper Claims
WASHINGTON: A U.S. newspaper has claimed that President Donald Trump is considering the option of deploying ground troops to Iran. Citing American officials, the report stated that the United States is also reviewing the possibility of seizing Iranian islands near the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking to reporters, President Trump said that Iran would “soon be defeated” and that Tehran is seeking negotiations. He added that the United States would consider whether any agreement could be reached with Iran.
Trump also stated that Iran has released an American woman who had been detained during the Biden administration, describing the move as a gesture of goodwill.
Responding to a question regarding a deadline for potential strikes on Iranian bridges, Trump said that he does not like setting deadlines but stressed that Iran should improve its conduct.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed that American forces had disabled a tanker heading toward Iran. According to CENTCOM, the commercial vessel ignored multiple warnings and attempted to violate a U.S. blockade, prompting a U.S. military aircraft to strike the ship.
