Alleged Harassment of Muslim Woman in Bihar Sparks Outrage on Social Media

ISLAMABAD: An alleged incident of harassment involving a Muslim woman in India’s state of Bihar has sparked widespread outrage on social media, renewing concerns over the treatment of religious minorities in the country.

According to Indian media reports, the woman was allegedly stopped on a road by a group of people who surrounded her. A video circulating online appears to show the woman pleading for help while trying to protect herself, but those around her reportedly ignored her appeals.

The footage, which has not been independently verified, appears to show members of the crowd removing the woman’s face covering (niqab) and allegedly applying sindoor to the parting of her hair against her will. Slogans of “Jai Bajrang Bali” can also be heard in the background, while one individual is heard saying, “The video will be recorded, and there will be proof.”

Reports further claim that the woman and the man accompanying her were followed for some distance as members of the crowd continued recording videos.

The video has spread rapidly across social media platforms. However, there has been no official confirmation of any arrests or formal police action in connection with the incident at the time of reporting.

The alleged incident has reignited debate over the protection of minorities, religious freedom, and the rule of law in India. Critics say such incidents reflect growing religious intolerance and have raised concerns over the role of extremist elements and the effectiveness of authorities in preventing such acts.
