Organized Robbery Gang Using Staged Road Disputes Active in Karachi, Police Warn

Karachi: An organized criminal gang is reportedly targeting motorists in Karachi by deliberately creating minor road disputes to distract drivers before stealing their valuables, according to police and local media reports.

According to a private television channel, the gang has been operating in busy areas of the city, particularly along Shahrah-e-Quaideen, where suspects reportedly pose as street booksellers while carrying out planned robberies.

Police said the gang follows a carefully coordinated method. One suspect intentionally collides with a stationary vehicle near the Allah Wala Signal and may damage the side window. When the driver lowers the window to protest, another accomplice creates a disturbance by banging on the rear of the vehicle, diverting the driver’s attention.

While the driver is distracted, the first suspect—pretending to sell books—allegedly snatches the driver’s mobile phone and quickly flees the scene.

Officials from the Ferozabad Police said the gang is also using other tactics, including smearing dirt across a vehicle’s windshield with the windshield wipers to force drivers to stop and engage in an argument. The primary objective, police say, is to create confusion and distract motorists so they can be robbed.

Police have launched efforts to identify and arrest those involved and have advised motorists to remain alert, avoid unnecessary confrontations on the road, and immediately contact law enforcement if they encounter suspicious behavior.
