PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Says Restricting Meetings With Imran Khan Will Increase Tensions

Islamabad: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said that preventing meetings with PTI founder Imran Khan will only deepen political tensions and divisions in the country.
Speaking to the media at the Dahgal checkpoint on Adiala Road in Rawalpindi, Gohar claimed that no one had been allowed to meet the PTI founder for the past 37 weeks. He said restricting such meetings would fuel resentment and increase polarization.
The PTI chairman said discussions had taken place regarding allowing family members to meet Imran Khan. According to Gohar, the government had asked for a written request and sought assurances that no political statements would be made after the meeting. However, the family insisted that all relatives should be allowed to meet him, and no agreement was reached.
He added that the party wants all major decisions to be made in consultation with Imran Khan, claiming that the former prime minister had been taken to the hospital five times, while Bushra Bibi had been taken three times.
Commenting on the decision to boycott the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, Gohar said the party’s political committee had made the decision after assessing the prevailing situation in the region.
He also stated that he had not received any complaints from either Imran Khan or Bushra Bibi regarding their conditions. Referring to reports mentioned by Imran Khan’s sister, he said there had been an offer related to arranging a meeting with the PTI founder.
Gohar warned that focusing on minor disputes would hinder political progress and argued that legal decisions against Imran Khan would further increase political tensions and deepen divisions in the country.
Rejecting reports of internal divisions, he said there was no rebellion or forward bloc within PTI and maintained that the party remained united under Imran Khan’s leadership.
On the situation in Azad Kashmir, Gohar reiterated that PTI does not support anti-state narratives or inflammatory rhetoric but backs the legitimate demands of the public. He added that the party does not want the Kashmir cause to be undermined and emphasized the need for responsible political conduct.
