Maryam Nawaz Set to Become Pakistan’s Next Prime Minister, Claims Former Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair

Karachi: Former Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair has made a series of political claims regarding Pakistan’s future leadership, asserting that Maryam Nawaz is expected to become the country’s next prime minister.
Speaking on a television program, Zubair said there was little reason for Nawaz Sharif to engage in dialogue with the opposition, arguing that the Sharif family already holds key positions in government.
He pointed out that Nawaz Sharif’s brother, Shehbaz Sharif, is serving as prime minister, while his son-in-law’s father, Ishaq Dar, is deputy prime minister, and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, is the chief minister of Punjab.
According to Zubair, it has effectively been decided that Maryam Nawaz will be the next prime minister, although he said there could be differing views over whether Hamza Shehbaz or Ali Dar would succeed her as Punjab’s chief minister.
Commenting on Fazlur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), Zubair questioned why he would join any political movement that could facilitate the return of Imran Khan. He argued that Fazlur Rehman’s political standing had suffered its greatest setback during Imran Khan’s tenure.
Discussing Karachi’s urban development, Zubair said that significant expansion took place during the period when Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) held considerable influence in the city. However, he criticized the planning and infrastructure of many of those areas, claiming that some neighborhoods established decades earlier appeared more organized than newer developments.
He also alleged that several localities continue to face inadequate electricity and gas infrastructure, poor road networks, and the presence of unauthorized buildings, many of which are now in deteriorating condition.
Zubair’s remarks reflect his personal political views and assessments and do not represent any official confirmation regarding future political leadership or government succession.
