Moon Sighting Meeting for Muharram 1448 to Be Held Today

Lahore: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet today for the sighting of the Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 crescent moon.

According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the meeting will be chaired by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad and will be held at the Badshahi Mosque in Lahore.

In addition, a similar moon sighting meeting will also be held in Saudi Arabia this evening.

Officials further stated that the new Islamic year begins with the month of Muharram, and it is also noted that the Kiswa (Ghilaf-e-Kaaba) is changed on the first day of Muharram. Previously, the Kiswa was traditionally replaced during the month of Dhul Hijjah.

The announcement of the moon sighting will determine the official start of Muharram-ul-Haram in Pakistan.
