England Edge Hosts Mexico to Reach FIFA World Cup 2026 Quarter-Finals
England national football team booked their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-finals after defeating hosts Mexico national football team 3-2 in a thrilling Round of 16 encounter.
England secured the victory thanks to a brace from Jude Bellingham and another goal from captain Harry Kane. Mexico responded through goals from Quiñones and Jiménez, but were unable to complete a comeback.
England were forced to play with 10 men from the 54th minute after defender Jarell Quansah was shown a straight red card by the referee. Despite being a player down for much of the second half, the Three Lions held on to secure a hard-fought victory.
With the win, England advance to the quarter-finals, where they will face Norway national football team.
Earlier in the day, Norway produced one of the tournament’s biggest upsets by defeating five-time world champions Brazil national football team 2-1, eliminating the South American giants and reaching the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in their history.
