Preity Zinta Moves Bombay High Court Against AI Deepfake Videos and Unauthorized Digital Content

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has approached the Bombay High Court seeking legal action against AI-generated deepfake videos, manipulated images, and other unauthorized digital content created using her identity.

In her petition, Zinta stated that artificial intelligence is being used to produce deepfake videos, altered photographs, and chatbot-style content featuring her likeness without her consent. She argued that such material has the potential to damage her reputation and mislead the public.

The actress has requested the court to direct social media platforms and online services to immediately remove all disputed content created using her name, image, and identity. She has also sought an order preventing the future publication or circulation of similar unauthorized material.

The matter was heard before Justice Madhav Jamdar, who, after considering the preliminary arguments, instructed the concerned parties and online platforms to work together on a mechanism for removing the disputed content.

The court has scheduled the next hearing in the case for July 6.

Deepfake technology uses artificial intelligence to create highly realistic videos, images, or audio recordings that can falsely depict a person saying or doing things that never actually occurred, raising growing concerns over privacy, misinformation, and reputational harm.
