LONDON:The United Kingdom has begun considering the possible deportation of convicted grooming gang leader Shabir Ahmed to Pakistan, according to British media reports.

The reports state that UK authorities have contacted Pakistan regarding the matter, while Prime Minister Keir Starmer has instructed officials to review the case.

According to British media, the deportation of foreign offenders generally requires the consent of the receiving country before removal can proceed.

Shabir Ahmed was convicted of sexual offences in 2012 and was recently released from prison after serving his sentence.
