Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has instructed the Deputy Superintendent of Adiala Jail to ensure that former Prime Minister Imran Khan receives all facilities entitled to him under prison regulations. The order came during a hearing on a petition filed by Noreen Niazi, seeking better facilities for Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
During the proceedings, the Deputy Superintendent informed the court that all necessary facilities had already been provided to Khan as per jail rules. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir inquired about the representatives from the jail department, and DIG Jail Affairs Abdul Roouf confirmed that meetings with Khan had resumed.
The judge emphasized that Khan should have access to newspapers and directed that he be provided with one. Furthermore, concerns were raised about the lack of communication between Khan and his family. Advocate Shoaib Shaheen stated that Khan was unable to make phone calls to his sons, to which the Deputy Superintendent replied that WhatsApp calls were not part of jail regulations.
Justice Tahir then instructed that regardless of the method, the authorities should facilitate communication between Khan and his family. The hearing also involved discussions about restrictions on visits, which had been imposed for security reasons.
In a separate case, Justice Thaman Riffat Imtiaz ordered that former senator Azam Swati be presented before the High Court at 9 AM the following morning. Swati is currently seeking protective bail in several cases.
