Pakistan Will Defend Its Water Rights, Says Climate Change Minister Musadik Malik

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Climate Change Senator Musadik Malik has reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance on protecting its water rights, warning that the country will respond strongly to any attempt to interfere with its share of water.

In a statement, Malik said Pakistan has made it clear that it will not compromise on its water rights under any circumstances.

“Anyone who tries to interfere with Pakistan’s water will face a strong response,” he said, adding that the country remains committed to safeguarding its vital water resources.

The minister questioned whether upstream countries should have the authority to block water flowing to downstream nations, emphasizing that Pakistan has always stood up for its legitimate rights.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said the Indus Waters Treaty cannot be suspended unilaterally, describing it as a binding international agreement.

He added that the Prime Minister and the Field Marshal have consistently maintained that water is a matter of Pakistan’s survival and that there can be no compromise on the country’s water interests.

Tarar also said Pakistan’s position on the Indus Waters Treaty has received international recognition. He announced that water experts from around the world are expected to attend an international conference in Pakistan, where the significance of the Indus Waters Treaty and Pakistan’s stance on the issue will be discussed.
