PTA Warns WhatsApp Accounts Linked to Unregistered or Inactive SIMs May Be Blocked

Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an urgent advisory for WhatsApp users across the country, warning that accounts linked to inactive, blocked, or unregistered SIM cards may soon become inaccessible.

According to the PTA, WhatsApp accounts operating on SIM cards that have been permanently deactivated, blocked by the mobile operator or the authority, or are not registered in the user’s name could be automatically logged out or blocked.

The authority has advised users to immediately ensure that their WhatsApp number is linked to an active SIM card registered under their own name. Users have also been urged to verify that the SIM associated with their WhatsApp account is still active and functioning properly.

The PTA said the measures are being introduced to strengthen security and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

The authority cautioned that users relying on inactive or unregistered SIM cards risk losing access to their WhatsApp accounts. If an account is automatically logged out, users may face difficulties in recovering their chats and account data.

To avoid any disruption, the PTA has urged all WhatsApp users to update their accounts and switch to a valid, active, and legally registered SIM card before any restrictions take effect.
