US and Iran Agree to Halt Attacks, Set Doha Talks to Ease Hormuz Tensions

The United States and Iran have reportedly agreed to halt attacks against one another and resume diplomatic talks later this week, according to a senior U.S. official cited by an American news website.

The report said both countries have agreed to meet on Tuesday in Doha, the capital of Qatar, to discuss ways to de-escalate tensions and address the dispute surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.

The planned talks come amid efforts to reduce regional tensions following recent hostilities between the two countries.

Earlier, a senior Iranian official said Tehran had declined to participate in technical negotiations scheduled for Sunday, citing recent U.S. strikes and what Iran described as violations of the terms of a previously agreed memorandum of understanding.

Neither the United States nor Iran has officially confirmed the reported agreement or the details of the planned meeting at the time of reporting.
