Cloudburst Triggers Widespread Damage in Diamer’s Thor Area, Relief Operations Underway

Diamer: A cloudburst has caused widespread destruction in the Thor area of Diamer district, damaging homes, agricultural land, crops, roads, public infrastructure, and livestock, prompting authorities to launch emergency relief operations.

According to district officials, flash floods triggered by the cloudburst swept through the areas of Shetan, Aingar, and Thor Meik, causing extensive damage to residential properties, cultivated fields, standing crops, a local mosque, vehicles, and a WAPDA colony.

Authorities said that nearly 200 grams of gold, extracted through gold placer mining, was also washed away in the floodwaters. Search efforts are currently underway to recover the lost gold.

The district administration responded immediately by accelerating rescue and relief activities in the affected areas. Road links at two locations have already been restored, while restoration work continues in other flood-hit areas.

In a notable act of honesty, officials recovered Rs400,000 in cash near a damaged house in the WAPDA colony and returned the money to its rightful owner.

Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Authority, Imtiaz Ahmed, said field teams reached the affected villages soon after the incident and distributed food supplies, tents, and other essential relief items among displaced families.

The Disaster Management Authority said the district administration is utilizing all available resources to support relief and rehabilitation efforts, with the aim of providing timely assistance to flood-affected families and restoring normalcy in the region as quickly as possible.
