Trump Praises Pakistan’s Leadership, Says Islamabad Helped Facilitate Iran Deal

WASHINGTON:** U.S. President Donald Trump has once again praised Pakistan’s leadership, describing Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as “great leaders” and acknowledging Pakistan’s role in efforts related to a deal with Iran.
Speaking in an interview with a U.S. media outlet, President Trump said that Field Marshal Asim Munir is a “great man” and that Pakistan’s prime minister is also “great.” He added that Asim Munir shows complete respect for the prime minister, calling it a positive and admirable quality.
Trump further stated that Pakistani leaders provided significant assistance in discussions involving Iran, noting that Pakistan’s leadership has a strong understanding of Iran’s leadership and its people.
Later, while addressing an event, the U.S. president said that Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit the United States in September. He also credited China with playing an important role regarding the Iran issue.

In Pakistan, you have the Field Marshal, who is great. And you have the prime minister, and they just get along great.

Trump noted that China purchases approximately 50 percent of its oil needs from Iran and reiterated that the United States maintains excellent relations with Israel. He also said that he plans to visit China again sometime later this year.
The remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts involving major global powers and regional stakeholders on issues related to Iran and Middle Eastern stability.
