How Many Cups of Tea and Coffee per Day Are Healthy? Study Reveals Optimal Intake

Islamabad (Kudrat News) A new medical study has suggested that moderate consumption of tea and coffee may contribute to better health and a longer lifespan.
Published in the British Journal of Nutrition, the research found that antioxidant-rich beverages such as tea and coffee can positively affect cellular health and reduce the risk of premature death.
According to the study, individuals who consume around 7 to 8 cups of total daily fluids, including water, tea, and coffee, show a lower risk of death from various causes.
Researchers also observed that a combination of approximately 2 cups of coffee and 3 cups of tea per day was associated with up to a 45 percent reduction in the risk of early death.
The study analyzed data from more than 182,000 participants over a 13-year period. Participants regularly provided information about their daily intake of water, tea, and coffee through detailed questionnaires.
Findings suggest that while water remains essential for maintaining basic bodily functions, adding moderate amounts of tea and coffee may further improve metabolic health.
Experts explained that antioxidants such as polyphenols found in these beverages help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, which are linked to chronic conditions including type 2 diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome.
Coffee contains chlorogenic acid, which may help regulate blood sugar levels and improve metabolic function, while tea is rich in catechins that support weight management and cardiovascular health.
Researchers noted that improved metabolic function can also reduce the risk of heart disease and slow age-related decline, contributing to better quality of life.
However, they also cautioned that excessive caffeine intake may lead to side effects such as increased heart rate, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and dehydration, highlighting the importance of moderation.
