Islamabad: Residents of a neighborhood in Scotland are facing an unusual problem as a runaway parrot has reportedly caused thousands of dollars’ worth of damage by attacking parked vehicles.

According to local residents, the bird has been roaming the area since February and has developed a habit of chewing through rubber components on cars, including windshield wipers and window seals. The repeated attacks have left many vehicle owners facing costly repair bills.

Frustrated by the situation, some residents have started covering their cars with tarpaulins whenever they are not in use in an effort to protect them from the troublesome bird.

One local woman told media outlets that the parrot has become infamous in the neighborhood, joking that people no longer mention it in positive terms because of the destruction it has caused.

The parrot may be seeing its reflection in car windows and perceiving it as a rival, prompting territorial behavior. Another possibility is that it is attracted to certain minerals or fats present in the rubber. Experts also believe the bird may simply be engaging in playful behavior to relieve boredom.
