Saudi Prince Found Dead in Luxury London Hotel Room; Coroner Rules Death Caused by Fatal Combination of Alcohol and Drugs

LONDON: A British coroner’s court has heard that 29-year-old Saudi Prince Abdullah bin Fahd bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Jalawi Al Saud was found dead in the bathroom of his room at a luxury hotel in Kensington, London. A medical inquiry and toxicology reports concluded that he died from a heart attack caused by a lethal combination of alcohol, recreational drugs, and prescription medications.

According to British media reports presented before the Inner West London Coroner’s Court, Prince Abdullah had checked into the Kensington Marriott Hotel for a week-long stay, where rooms cost approximately £600 per night. CCTV footage showed him smoking outside the hotel on the evening before his death before returning alone to his room.

The following day, housekeeping staff entered his locked room on the hotel’s fifth floor and found him fully clothed on the bathroom floor. Despite efforts by paramedics to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Assistant Coroner Jane Harken, after reviewing all the evidence and CCTV footage, ruled that the death was a tragic accident and found no evidence of suicide. Toxicology reports revealed that Prince Abdullah had consumed extremely dangerous levels of intoxicating substances.

The court was told that his blood alcohol level measured 222 milligrams—almost three times the United Kingdom’s legal driving limit of 80 milligrams and high enough to potentially induce a coma. Tests also detected dangerously high levels of Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate (GHB), commonly known as a party drug, along with traces of cannabis, Xanax, and other anti-anxiety and sedative medications.

The hearing further revealed that Prince Abdullah had struggled with alcohol and Xanax addiction for an extended period and had completed treatment at some of Britain’s most expensive rehabilitation facilities just months before his death. In August last year, he underwent treatment at a renowned clinic in southwest London, where residential rehabilitation costs approximately £35,000 per week.

Consultant psychiatrist Dr. Victoria informed the court that Prince Abdullah had been cooperative throughout his treatment and was discharged with no indications that he posed a risk of self-harm. He later continued his rehabilitation at another private clinic in Merseyside, costing around £7,000 per week, from which he was discharged after making a satisfactory recovery.

The coroner ultimately concluded that Prince Abdullah’s death was accidental and resulted from the combined effects of alcohol, recreational drugs, and prescription medication.
