Quetta Petrol Crisis: Citizen’s Self-Immolation Attempt Foiled, Concerns Over Economic Pressure

Quetta (Kudrat News) — An alarming incident was reported in the provincial capital Quetta amid a severe petrol shortage and an unusual rise in fuel prices, where a citizen allegedly attempted self-immolation in protest against economic hardships and the ongoing fuel crisis. However, timely intervention by bystanders prevented the tragedy, averting a major loss.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place near the busy commercial area of Balochistan Plaza, where the man, in a state of distress and anger, allegedly poured petrol over his body. He was reportedly protesting against rising fuel prices, shortage of petrol, and their negative impact on daily life.
People present at the scene quickly intervened and managed to restrain him, subsequently shifting him to a safe location, preventing a potentially fatal outcome.
Citizens said that in recent days, petrol shortages and price hikes in Quetta have caused severe difficulties for the public. Increased transport fares, rising daily expenses for working individuals, and limited fuel availability have further worsened living conditions.
Following the incident, a large number of people gathered in and around Balochistan Plaza. Some residents termed the incident a reflection of growing economic pressure and public distress, while others urged immediate government action to address the issue.
According to sources, relevant authorities and law enforcement agencies also reached the site after being informed and reviewed the situation.
Social and civic circles expressed deep concern over the incident, stating that economic pressure is increasing mental stress and anxiety among citizens. They urged the government to ensure the availability of petrol, stabilize prices, and take strict action against hoarding and profiteering to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
