Nutritionists Warn Milk Tea Lovers to Consume in Moderation

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) – Milk tea, commonly known as “doodh patti chai,” is not just a beverage in the subcontinent but an essential part of daily life and hospitality. However, health experts have warned that excessive consumption may have harmful effects on health.
A nutrition expert explained in detail that whether tea is beneficial or harmful depends on how it is prepared, what ingredients are added, and the type of tea leaves used.
According to the expert, tea can provide energy and refreshment when consumed in moderation, but drinking more than three to four cups a day is not advisable. They cautioned that excessive milk, high sugar content, and overly strong tea can lead to various health problems.
The nutritionist noted that high sugar levels in milk tea can increase blood sugar levels, while overly strong tea can cause indigestion, stomach gas, and lactose intolerance issues in some individuals. Some people may also experience stomach sensitivity when consuming tea with milk.
They advised that healthier alternatives include black tea, green tea, or lighter versions of tea. Adding natural ingredients such as ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and fennel not only enhances flavor but also supports digestive health.
The expert further recommended avoiding tea or caffeinated beverages three to four hours before sleep, as they can disrupt sleep patterns. They especially advised against drinking milk tea immediately after dinner.
They also warned that smoking with tea is extremely harmful, as this combination can cause dehydration and negatively impact overall health. Green tea and matcha are beneficial when consumed with plain hot water, but adding milk, cream, or excessive sugar reduces their health benefits.
The nutritionist concluded that tea does not need to be completely avoided; however, drinking it in moderation, using smaller cups, and increasing daily water intake are essential for a healthy lifestyle.
