Prices of sacrificial animals likely to drop before Eid, key reason revealed

Islamabad (Khabrain Report) As Eid-ul-Adha approaches, buying and selling activity has intensified in cattle markets across the country, while experts suggest that livestock prices may witness a notable decline in the coming days.
In major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Multan, initial prices of sacrificial animals had surged significantly. According to traders, rising costs of fodder, transportation, water, and market space have contributed to higher animal prices.
However, a large number of citizens are reportedly reluctant to purchase animals due to ongoing inflation. Although cattle markets are witnessing heavy footfall, actual buying activity remains relatively low, increasing pressure on livestock dealers.
Market sources indicate that prices may drop sharply in the last two days before Eid as traders try to sell off animals. They add that after Eid, animal prices fall drastically, forcing dealers to reduce profit margins to avoid losses.
Experts further noted a rising trend of online and collective Qurbani, which has reduced footfall in traditional cattle markets. Welfare organizations and digital platforms are directly purchasing animals from farms.
Additionally, government action against illegal cattle markets and restrictions on unauthorized setups are also expected to help reduce artificial price inflation in the livestock sector.
