Power Division Issues Advisory Over Risk of Data Theft Through Fake QR Codes on Electricity Bills

ISLAMABAD (Qudrat News) – Pakistan’s Power Division has issued an advisory warning electricity consumers about the risk of personal information theft through fraudulent QR code schemes linked to electricity bills.
According to the advisory issued by the Power Division spokesperson, consumers are being asked to click on suspicious links and share their information through a four-step process. After entering their details, users are reportedly instructed to input a six-digit verification code on the same link.
The spokesperson warned that certain malicious elements are attempting to misuse QR codes for illegal and fraudulent purposes.
The Power Division clarified that bill-related information cannot be submitted on any unauthorized platform and described such methods of collecting consumer data as illegal and misleading.
Officials further stated that law enforcement agencies have been informed about the criminal elements involved in these activities. Consumers have been advised not to share their personal information digitally or on paper in the name of electricity subsidies or other related schemes.
