Pakistan’s Mediation Efforts Praised as Delegation Heads to Iran, Says US Secretary of State

Islamabad: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has confirmed that a Pakistani mediation delegation is set to visit Iran today, expressing hope that the ongoing diplomatic efforts could lead to a positive outcome in negotiations.

According to international media reports, Marco Rubio told journalists that discussions on a ceasefire draft are underway and that Pakistan’s delegation is traveling to Iran as part of continued mediation efforts. He added that there are “encouraging signs” emerging from recent talks with Iran.

However, he maintained a cautious tone, saying he does not want to be overly optimistic and that the situation will become clearer in the coming days.

The development comes amid an intensification of Pakistan’s diplomatic role following the extension of the ceasefire initiative by former US President Donald Trump. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly visited Iran twice within 24 hours and held meetings with senior Iranian leadership.

Diplomatic sources say Pakistan has been engaged for weeks in backchannel communication between Iran and the United States, aiming to reduce tensions and explore possibilities for a ceasefire or peace agreement.

Reports also suggest that high-level Pakistani leadership may soon visit Iran, further strengthening its mediation role in the region.

Gulf countries, including Qatar, have also appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, acknowledging its role in promoting peace in the Middle East.

Iranian leadership has similarly expressed support for Pakistan’s involvement, while former US President Donald Trump has also praised Pakistan’s leadership, calling Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif “great people,” according to earlier statements.
