Xi Jinping Says China and US Should Be Partners, Not Rivals
Beijing: Xi Jinping said that China and the United States should act as partners rather than rivals, stressing the importance of strategic cooperation between the world’s two largest economies.
According to media reports, President Xi made the remarks during a state dinner held in honor of US President Donald Trump in Beijing.
Xi Jinping described the US president’s visit as “historic” and praised the people of both countries, saying they are “great nations” capable of working together for the benefit of the world.
He recalled the historic visit made 55 years ago by former US diplomat Henry Kissinger, which helped open a new chapter in China-US relations. Xi said both countries are now prepared to guide bilateral ties toward a new direction based on cooperation and mutual development.
The Chinese president stated that his meeting with President Trump included positive and constructive discussions, adding that China’s rejuvenation and America’s progress can move forward together. He emphasized that the international community has high expectations from both nations.
Xi further noted that China-US relations are among the world’s most important bilateral relationships, warning that confrontation harms both sides while cooperation and partnership bring mutual benefits.
Meanwhile, President Trump thanked China for what he called a warm and impressive welcome during his visit. He said the day marked an important moment for US-China relations and described his talks with Xi Jinping as “extremely positive and constructive.”
Trump said ties between the two countries have grown stronger over time and highlighted the importance of peaceful relations between Washington and Beijing. He also praised the Chinese people as “brave” and said it was an honor to visit China.
The US president further invited Xi Jinping and the Chinese First Lady to visit the United States on September 24, saying their visit would be warmly welcomed.
