Transporters Demand Compensation for Losses in Lakkpass Customs Warehouse Fire, Blame Customs Department for Negligence

Quetta – The All Pakistan Bus Transport Union has demanded that the government compensate transporters of Balochistan for losses incurred in the recent fire at the Lakkpass Customs warehouse, holding the Customs Department responsible for alleged negligence.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the union, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of All Pakistan Bus Transport Union Chairman Haji Mir Daulat Ali Lehri. Transport representatives from various routes, including truck, Mazda, trailer, and other goods vehicle owners, participated in the meeting.
The meeting reviewed in detail the financial losses suffered by transporters due to the devastating fire at the Lakkpass Customs warehouse.
Addressing the meeting, Chairman Haji Mir Daulat Ali Lehri said that the transport community in Balochistan has already been facing severe difficulties, and the Lakkpass warehouse fire has further worsened their situation.
He alleged that the incident occurred due to negligence on the part of the Customs Department and demanded that the federal government immediately compensate the affected transporters.
He further stated that transporters are a peaceful community but have suffered heavy financial losses. He criticized the customs system, claiming that vehicles are often seized on minor grounds and cases remain pending for years without resolution.
He added that if such vehicles had been released in time and cases properly pursued, the federal government could have earned billions in tax revenue instead of suffering losses.
The union urged the federal government to conduct a transparent investigation into the incident and ensure compensation for the affected transporters. It warned that if their demands are not met, the transport community will announce a future course of action and stage peaceful protests while also pursuing legal channels.
