Karachi Sees Rise in Domestic Violence, Harassment and Abuse Cases: Report

KARACHI: Karachi has witnessed an alarming increase in domestic violence, harassment, sexual assault, kidnapping and other crimes during the first four months of the current year, according to a report issued by the Women and Child Protection Cell.
The Women and Child Protection Cell Karachi revealed that a total of 388 individuals above the age of 18 were affected by various incidents during this period, while 10 victims were reported to be under the age of 18.
According to the report, 297 complaints of domestic violence were registered. Out of these, 190 cases have been resolved, while 100 remain pending. Three formal cases were also registered in connection with domestic violence incidents, highlighting that a significant number of victims sought legal assistance.
In cases of harassment, 83 complaints were reported. Authorities resolved 42 of them, while 41 cases are still under investigation. One FIR was registered related to harassment incidents.
The report also noted 19 complaints related to rape and other threats. Of these, 9 cases have been resolved, while 10 remain under process.
Officials stated that complaints continue to be received on a regular basis, and legal action is being taken in accordance with the law. The data highlights a concerning situation regarding the safety and protection of women and children in the city.
