Federal Government Considers Transferring BISP to Provinces

Islamabad: The federal government has begun considering the possibility of transferring the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) to provincial governments.

Speaking to Geo News, Federal Minister Dil Das Kohistani said that after the 18th Constitutional Amendment, most powers have already been devolved to the provinces, and therefore it would be appropriate if financial assistance payments are also managed at the provincial level.

He added that some provinces have also raised similar demands regarding the program.

However, the minister clarified that no final decision has been made yet and any move in this regard will only be taken after consultation with coalition partners and political parties.

He further stated that there is no consideration to completely abolish the Benazir Income Support Programme, emphasizing that the initiative will continue in some form even if administrative changes are made.
