Network Behind Attack on Scholar Maulana Idris Traced, Suspected Images Recovered

Islamabad (Khabar Desk) — Investigating authorities have traced the network involved in the attack on prominent religious scholar Maulana Muhammad Idris in Charsadda and have reportedly obtained images of the suspected attackers through CCTV footage.
Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed stated that initial evidence suggests the incident was a targeted killing, adding that those involved will be brought to justice soon.
According to officials leading the investigation into the killing of Maulana Sheikh Idris, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) of local police reviewed key footage and identified important evidence related to the incident. Authorities said one of the four suspected terrorists involved in the attack has been identified.
Investigators further revealed that the suspect was traced through CCTV cameras and is believed to be of Afghan origin. They added that efforts are underway to uncover the complete network through this identification.
Officials also stated that preliminary findings suggest the planning of the attack may have taken place in Afghanistan.
The incident occurred earlier in the morning at around 8:10 AM in the jurisdiction of Utmanzai Police Station in Charsadda, where unidentified armed motorcyclists opened indiscriminate fire on Maulana Muhammad Idris’s vehicle. Following the attack, the scholar and two injured constables were shifted to hospital for treatment.
