Sindh Govt Plans Cheaper Electricity for Karachi’s Low-Income Areas and Industries

Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced a plan to provide cheaper electricity to underprivileged areas and industrial zones in Karachi.
The decision was made during a meeting at the Chief Minister House with K-Electric Chairman Shahriar Chishti. The meeting was also attended by K-Electric CEO Syed Taha, PSCM Agha Wasif, Secretary Energy Shaib Ansari, and other officials.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the Energy Department and K-Electric to jointly conduct a study on a targeted electricity subsidy program for Karachi consumers.
He further instructed officials to prepare proposals for supplying subsidized electricity to low-income neighborhoods and industrial areas, while also emphasizing the need to reduce load-shedding as summer begins.
Murad Ali Shah expressed concern over prolonged power outages in underprivileged areas, stating that rising temperatures have worsened difficulties for low-income communities. He stressed the importance of finding practical solutions to reduce load-shedding, especially in poorer localities.
The Chief Minister added that a targeted subsidy mechanism should be designed to ensure relief for deserving households in Karachi.
