Government Imposes Sharp Fuel Price Hike, Petrol and Diesel Up by Rs26.77 per Litre

Islamabad: The federal government has announced a significant increase in petroleum prices, effectively imposing what critics are calling a “petrol bomb” on the public during late-night hours.
According to official notification, the price of petrol and diesel has been increased by Rs26.77 per litre each. After the revision, the new price of petrol has reached Rs393.35 per litre, while diesel has also seen a sharp upward adjustment.
The new prices will come into effect from midnight today.
The increase comes amid volatility in the global oil market, where crude oil prices have surged sharply. International media reports suggest that Brent crude oil rose to around $106.80 per barrel, marking an increase of nearly 5 percent compared to previous sessions. Earlier, prices had already crossed the $100 mark.
The global rise has been linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly the conflict involving Iran, which has raised concerns over energy supply stability.
In the United States, former President Donald Trump reportedly warned that fuel prices may remain elevated for some time due to the ongoing situation. Speaking to media at the White House, he stated that Americans may have to bear higher petrol prices temporarily, while emphasizing that the broader objective is to ensure Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons or threaten regional and global security.
The latest fuel price hike is expected to further fuel inflationary pressure in Pakistan, where citizens are already facing rising living costs.
