Seven-Storey Building Raised in 70 Days in Karachi’s Lyari Poses Serious Safety Risk

Karachi: A seven-storey building allegedly constructed illegally within just 70 days in Lyari has raised serious concerns about public safety, prompting legal action in the Sindh High Court.
A resident, Zahid Hussain, filed a petition against the незаконной construction, naming the Sindh government, Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), Anti-Encroachment Department, and Land Department as respondents. Builders Shah Jahan and Shah Nawaz have also been included in the petition.
According to the plea, the building was constructed illegally in the Agra Taj area of Lyari, specifically on Plot No. 25 located on Mirza Adam Khan Road. The petitioner argued that the structure violates SBCA regulations and other building laws.
It was further stated that the builders managed to complete the seven-storey structure in just 70 days, allegedly using substandard construction materials, thereby endangering human lives.
The petitioner informed the court that multiple complaints had been filed with the SBCA regarding the illegal construction, but no action was taken by the authority.
The petition also highlighted a recent tragic building collapse in Lyari’s Baghdadi area, which claimed 13 lives, stressing that such незаконной constructions pose a severe threat to residents.
The petitioner has requested the court to order the demolition of the illegal building and direct the SBCA to take immediate action against unlawful constructions.
