Lahore High Court Seeks Response from Federal Government on Petition Against Fuel Price Hike

Lahore: The Lahore High Court has issued a notice to the federal government, seeking its response to a petition challenging the recent increase in petroleum product prices.

Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh heard the petition filed by a lawyer against the price hike. The federal government’s counsel stated that fuel prices are determined based on OGRA’s (Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority) summary. The petitioner’s lawyer requested the government to provide a written explanation.

Recently, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik announced a significant increase in the per-liter prices of petrol and diesel. During a media briefing alongside Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and the Federal Minister for Finance, Malik confirmed a hike of Rs 55 per liter for both petrol and diesel.

Following the increase, the new prices have been set at Rs 321.17 per liter for petrol and Rs 335.86 per liter for diesel.
