Quetta to Expand Green Bus Project with 60 New Buses to Modernize Public Transport

Quetta: Efforts are underway to modernize the public transport system in Quetta, as the government has decided to expand the Green Bus project with an additional fleet of 60 buses, officials said.

According to sources, a survey for the new buses has been completed and preliminary approval has been granted. Proposed routes have also been finalized to provide organized transport facilities to citizens across key areas of the city.

The new Green Buses will reportedly start their service from CM House and pass through Hali Road, By-Pass, Zarghoon Town Gate, Nawakilli By-Pass, and B.A. Mall, reaching Kohla Phatak. The route has been designed to ease traffic congestion and meet the growing commuting needs of the urban population.

Officials said that if administrative and financial approvals are completed on time, the new route is expected to become operational within the next few months, possibly by July. The initiative aims to reduce traffic pressure, improve public transport efficiency, and promote eco-friendly travel in the city.

Plans for a second phase of the project are also under consideration. A detailed summary has reportedly been sent to the Chief Minister of Balochistan, proposing additional routes and buses.

The second phase may include routes from Bileli Check Post to Chashma By-Pass, Sarghari, and Nawakilli By-Pass to Kohla Phatak, aimed at connecting suburban and underserved areas with main urban corridors.

The Green Bus project is expected to provide affordable and reliable transport, reduce dependency on private vehicles, and help lower environmental pollution. Citizens have welcomed the initiative, calling it a much-needed step for a rapidly expanding city.

The project is part of the provincial government’s broader strategy to improve urban infrastructure and provide modern public services, with hopes that its success will pave the way for further transport developments in the future.
