Shortage of Ambulances in Balochistan Hospitals Exposed as Over 100 Vehicles Allegedly Used by Influential Figures

Quetta (Daily Qudrat Quetta): A serious crisis in Balochistan’s health sector has emerged as hospitals across the province face an acute shortage of ambulances, while reports suggest that over 100 government ambulances are allegedly being used by influential individuals and political figures.

According to reports, hospitals and basic health units in several districts are struggling to provide timely emergency medical transport due to the unavailability of ambulances. The situation is particularly severe in remote and rural areas, where patients are often transported in private vehicles or unsafe alternatives.

Sources claim that more than 100 ambulances, instead of being used for public healthcare services, are allegedly stationed at the residences of political personalities, former and current representatives, and other influential individuals. This has significantly disrupted emergency response services for the public.

Health experts warn that ambulances are a critical component of any healthcare system, and their unavailability can directly lead to loss of human lives. They said that if such reports are accurate, it reflects not only poor governance but also misuse of authority.

Public and civil society representatives have demanded a transparent investigation into the matter, stressing that ambulances are public property and must be immediately returned to hospitals and rescue services.

Some health department officials, speaking unofficially, acknowledged shortcomings in the distribution and monitoring system of ambulances and said efforts are underway to address the issue. However, no formal statement has been issued so far.

Stakeholders have urged the government to introduce a proper digital tracking system, including GPS monitoring and strict oversight, to prevent misuse. They also called for immediate action against those responsible and comprehensive reforms to strengthen the healthcare system and save precious lives.
