Fact Check: Viral Claim About Erdoğan Threatening Attack on Israel Proven False

Islamabad: A viral social media claim attributed to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, suggesting that Türkiye would have attacked Israel if Pakistan had not mediated between the United States and Iran, has been proven false.
The claim began circulating widely on April 11 after a video of Erdoğan speaking in Turkish was shared on X (formerly Twitter). The post alleged that he praised Pakistan’s mediation efforts and warned of a possible Turkish attack on Israel if such efforts had not taken place.
However, verification reveals that Erdoğan made no such statement in any recent speech. The video in question was actually taken from a conference held in Istanbul on April 10, organized under the International Conference of Asian Political Parties. The original footage was broadcast by Turkish state media outlet TRT Haber.
In the relevant segment of his speech, Erdoğan criticized Israel over alleged ceasefire violations in Lebanon and accused it of violence against civilians, including women and children. However, he made no mention of Pakistan, mediation efforts, or any threat of military action against Israel.
Türkiye’s Counter Disinformation Center also clarified that the viral claim was baseless. Additionally, no credible Turkish media outlets reported any such statement.
The fact-check confirms that the claim portraying Erdoğan as threatening an attack on Israel in the absence of Pakistan’s mediation is entirely false and based on a misrepresentation of his actual remarks.
