Gwadar: Allegations of Fake Registrations in Green Speed Boats Scheme; Local Fishermen Demand Transparency

Gwadar (Daily Qudrat Quetta): Local fishermen in Gwadar have raised serious allegations regarding irregularities in the provincial government’s Green Speed Boats scheme, claiming that non-fishermen are being registered and genuine beneficiaries are being deprived of their rights.

Representatives of the Abdul Karim Fishermen Cooperative Society in Pasni, speaking through a video statement, said that several individuals who are not practically involved in fishing are registering themselves as “captains” on paper, thereby taking away the entitlements of real fishermen who have earned their livelihood from the sea for years.

The cooperative demanded that the registration process be immediately halted and made fully transparent. They emphasized that the speed boats should only be allocated to genuine fishermen, particularly those affected by recent storms or other natural disasters.

The spokesperson urged fisheries authorities to organize a meeting with responsible fishermen in Pasni to ensure proper identification of deserving beneficiaries. He also suggested limiting the number of registration forms to a manageable level to make the process more effective and transparent.

The cooperative warned that paper-based claims of being a “captain” must not be accepted, and the government should take swift action to safeguard the rights of rightful fishermen.
