Malaysia Welcomes Pakistan’s Mediation Offer, Urges US and Iran to Resume Talks

Islamabad: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has welcomed Pakistan’s offer to mediate between the United States and Iran, calling it timely and constructive amid rising regional tensions.

In a statement shared on social media, he praised the efforts of Shehbaz Sharif and other friendly nations for stepping forward to facilitate dialogue during a critical period. He also acknowledged the earlier diplomatic initiatives taken by Oman’s leadership.

Anwar Ibrahim noted that Pakistan’s strong ties with both the United States and Iran, along with its influential role in the Muslim world, place it in a favorable position to help create conditions conducive to meaningful negotiations. He added that Malaysia supports this initiative and has urged both Washington and Tehran to respond positively.

The Malaysian premier expressed hope that there is still room for diplomacy and stressed the importance of utilizing it wisely. He emphasized that any negotiations should aim not only for a temporary ceasefire but for a lasting resolution to the conflict.

He also recognized Iran’s right to self-defense under international law, particularly in the context of ongoing attacks in the region, while urging all parties to exercise restraint and avoid further harm to civilians.

Anwar Ibrahim warned that the ongoing tensions could have significant economic, social, and stability-related impacts across the region, including Gulf countries, underscoring the need for immediate de-escalation.
