Justice Hashim Kakak’s Remark to Victim in Foreign Job Scam Case Sparks Attention

Islamabad: The Supreme Court heard a bail plea of a suspect accused of defrauding a citizen by promising foreign employment. During the proceedings, Justice Hashim Kakak engaged in a notable exchange with the victim.

A two-member bench, headed by Justice Hashim Kakak, inquired about the amount taken by the accused. The plaintiff’s lawyer stated that the suspect had received PKR 1.75 million from the victim.

Justice Kakak then asked the victim which country the money was meant for. The victim replied that it was for Greece. Justice Kakak remarked, “If you went to Greece, you would have been left stranded. You are young, it is better to work hard here.” He also cautioned that many people die attempting to go abroad via unsafe routes.

The court further asked whether the accused had sent the victim abroad after taking the money. The lawyer confirmed that the suspect neither sent the victim abroad nor returned the money. Checks issued by the accused also bounced, and separate cases have been filed regarding the bounced checks.

The accused’s lawyer requested more time to prepare, to which Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim responded that the court would decide the case before Eid, and bail would be granted only if appropriate.

The hearing was adjourned until next Monday.
