Sindh Government to Introduce New Buses to Improve Public Transport in Karachi

Karachi: In a major relief for residents of Karachi, the Sindh government has decided to introduce more new buses soon to improve the city’s public transport system.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting reviewed ongoing projects, including the Red Line BRT, and discussed key measures to enhance public convenience and urban mobility.

The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Managing Director SMTA Kanwal Nizam Bhutto, Project Director Yellow Line Kamal Dayo, CEO Trans Karachi Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, along with engineers and consultants concerned.

The CEO of Trans Karachi gave a detailed briefing on the progress of the Red Line BRT project, highlighting developments so far, challenges faced, and upcoming targets.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharjeel Inam Memon said that although the pace of work on the Red Line BRT is generally satisfactory, it must be further accelerated. He directed all relevant departments to ensure daily monitoring of progress, emphasizing that timely completion of the corridor is a top priority of the Sindh government.

He stated that addressing commuting difficulties, traffic congestion, and daily hardships faced by citizens remains the government’s foremost objective. He also instructed authorities to strictly implement alternative traffic plans during construction and to strengthen public awareness campaigns so citizens receive timely information and face minimal inconvenience.

The senior minister further directed officials to expedite the launch of new buses and prioritize routes where commuters face the most difficulties. He said that the expansion of bus services would provide citizens with safe, affordable, and dignified travel facilities.

Sharjeel Inam Memon also ordered the immediate commencement of construction work on the second portion of the Senator Taj Haider Bridge, directing relevant departments to take prompt action.

He reaffirmed that the Sindh government is committed to providing Karachi with a modern and efficient public transport system, adding that along with BRT projects, the induction of new buses will bring a positive transformation to urban life in the city.
