Three Injured in Firing at Dera Murad Jamali Bus Stand; Protesters Block National Highway

DERA MURAD JAMALI: A gunman opened fire at a passenger coach at a bus stand in Dera Murad Jamali, injuring three people, including the driver, sparking a strong protest by transporters who blocked the national highway linking Sindh and Balochistan for several hours.

According to police, the incident occurred at the main bazaar bus stand when passengers were disembarking from the coach. A man riding a motorcycle allegedly opened indiscriminate fire with a pistol, injuring driver Azhar Mahmood and two others.

Police rushed to the scene upon receiving information and shifted the injured to the Teaching Hospital in Dera Murad Jamali for medical treatment.

Following the attack, enraged transporters staged a protest by parking vehicles on the main national highway, blocking traffic in both directions. As a result, traffic between Sindh and Balochistan remained suspended for hours, with thousands of vehicles stranded and long queues forming on both sides. Many fasting passengers faced severe difficulties due to the road closure.

The injured driver alleged that the attacker had initially been apprehended and a weapon recovered but claimed that police later allowed the suspect to escape in their presence. However, the DSP City denied the allegation and stated that a blockade had been set up across the area to arrest the suspect and that an investigation was underway.

The protest ended after senior police officials assured transporters that the accused would be arrested. Traffic on the national highway was later restored.
