Michael Clarke and Aaron Finch Surprised by Haris Rauf’s Omission from Pakistan T20 World Cup Squad

KARACHI: Former Australian captains Michael Clarke and Aaron Finch have expressed surprise over the exclusion of fast bowler Haris Rauf from Pakistan’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup, despite his impressive performances in the Big Bash League (BBL).

Speaking on a sports program, Aaron Finch said that it was “quite surprising” that Haris Rauf was not included in the squad. He added that Rauf brings an “X-factor” to the team, although he can occasionally be a bit expensive.

Finch emphasized the importance of having a bowler capable of taking wickets in all three phases of the game, especially in T20 cricket where wickets are crucial, particularly on flat pitches.

Michael Clarke also shared his thoughts, saying that he too was surprised by Rauf’s omission. However, he noted that playing in Australia is different from playing in Sri Lanka or India, and squad selection must consider local conditions.

Clarke explained that a player’s role and current form are important factors in team selection. “The role that Haris Rauf played in the BBL may not fit here, and form is a key consideration. When you select a squad for a World Cup, you want players to come in with both good cricket skills and good form,” he added.

Both cricketing legends highlighted that while Rauf’s talent is undeniable, team strategy, conditions, and player roles influence final squad decisions.
