90 Percent of Karachi’s Burnt Gul Plaza Cleared, Search for Missing Persons Continues

Rescue and clearance operations at Karachi’s burnt Gul Plaza have reached their final stages, with authorities confirming that around 90 percent of the building has been cleared.
Deputy Commissioner South, Javed Nabi Khoso, said that while most of the debris has been removed, 10 to 11 people are still missing and search efforts are ongoing to trace them.
Sources revealed that during the search operation, four Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) were recovered from the rubble. Officials believe the DVRs may provide crucial evidence to help determine the causes of the tragedy.
During the debris removal process, one and a half kilograms of gold were also recovered and handed over to the shop owner. Additionally, more than Rs100,000 in cash was found in a shop located in the basement and was returned to its owner.
Meanwhile, Police Surgeon Karachi Dr Samia Tariq stated that a total of 71 bodies and human remains have so far been recovered from Gul Plaza. She added that the DNA identification process remains complicated due to the bodies being severely burnt.
According to officials, out of the 71 deceased, 20 bodies have been identified, while 13 victims were identified through DNA analysis. The list of missing persons currently includes 82 names, authorities said.
