Implementation of Special Subsidy Scheme for Electric Bikes, Rickshaws, and Loaders Begins

Islamabad: The government has formally begun implementing a special subsidy scheme for electric bikes, rickshaws, and loaders under the Prime Minister’s Electric Vehicle Adoption Scheme. In the first phase, subsidy amounts have been transferred to the accounts of approved applicants.
According to the Engineering Development Board (EDB), approximately Rs9 billion in subsidies will be disbursed during the current fiscal year, while the government plans to provide over Rs100 billion in subsidies by 2030.
Official documents show that subsidies are being provided for 41,000 electric vehicles in Phase One, including 40,000 electric bikes and 1,000 electric rickshaws and loaders. The subsidy amount is being transferred directly to applicants’ bank accounts through the State Bank of Pakistan.
Under the scheme, electric bikes are being offered with a subsidy of up to Rs80,000, while electric bikes and rickshaws are also available on easy installments through bank leasing facilities. A plan has also been finalized for Phase Two, under which subsidies will be extended to more than 78,000 additional electric vehicles.
Officials said the initiative aims to promote affordable and environmentally friendly transport while reducing reliance on fuel. Only registered electric vehicles are eligible to benefit from the subsidy scheme.
