Yemen Announces Termination of Defense Agreement with UAE, Orders Troops to Leave Country

Yemen: Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi has announced the cancellation of the joint defense agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), ordering all UAE forces stationed in Yemen to leave the country within 24 hours.

According to Arab media reports, Al-Alimi stated that a complete air, land, and sea blockade will be imposed on all Yemeni ports and transit routes for 72 hours as part of the decision.

The orders from Yemen’s Presidential Council come at a time when the Saudi-led military coalition has carried out limited air operations in Yemen, targeting the Mukalla port. The coalition said the operation was aimed at countering alleged foreign military assistance being provided to the Southern Transitional Council (STC), a UAE-backed southern separatist group.

In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the steps taken by the UAE as extremely dangerous, warning that such actions could pose serious threats to regional stability.

The latest developments have further heightened tensions in Yemen, raising concerns over renewed instability and escalation in the already fragile region.
