Jannat Mirza Faces Backlash Over Ramp Walk at Bridal Couture Week

TikTok star Jannat Mirza recently grabbed headlines after walking the ramp at Bridal Couture Week, but this time the attention was driven by intense criticism rather than praise.
According to Express News, Jannat Mirza’s ramp walk disappointed many social media users, who harshly criticized her performance. Several users labeled her walk as a “sleep walk” and even a “horror walk.” One user sarcastically commented that she might later claim she could not walk properly due to fever, while another remarked that it looked as if an “Egyptian mummy” was walking on the ramp.
Many social media users argued that Jannat Mirza should stick to TikTok rather than appearing on the runway. Some also criticized renowned designer HSY (Hassan Sheheryar Yasin), questioning why professional models were overlooked in favor of social media influencers for such a high-profile fashion show.
Renowned fashion designer and critic Dr. Ijaz Waris compared past and present ramp walks, saying that earlier runway shows were graceful, regal, and captivating, whereas many modern ramp walks now resemble auditions rather than polished fashion presentations.
Senior actress and model Iffat Omar also expressed concern over the lack of professionalism seen at Bridal Couture Week. She emphasized that outfits should be properly tailored to the models and designed in a way that allows them to walk freely, adding that holding or lifting garments while walking on the ramp goes against professional modeling standards.
Although Jannat Mirza’s ramp walk was brief, the reaction it sparked on social media was intense and prolonged, once again reigniting the debate over the role and limits of influencers versus professional models in major fashion shows.
