Intense Cold Hits Balochistan: Quetta Records Minus 4°C, Residents Struggle Amid Gas Shortages

Quetta — **Balochistan is facing a severe cold wave**, with temperatures plunging across the province, leaving residents of urban and rural areas struggling to cope. Qalat recorded the lowest temperature at **minus 6°C**, while Quetta saw temperatures drop to **minus 4°C**.

Affected neighborhoods in Quetta include Satellite Town, Pashtunabad, Kansi Road, Balochi Street, Liaqat Bazaar, Stewart Road, Jinnah Town, Alimdar Road, Hazara Town, Railway Society, Saryab Road, Ten Town, Nowakli, Jan Muhammad Road, Faqir Muhammad Road, Pashtunistan Chowk, Arbab Karim Khan Road, Musi Colony, Qamberani Road, among others.

According to the **Meteorological Department**, most districts experienced cold and dry weather throughout the day, with **northern and hilly areas expected to face severe cold during mornings and nights** in the next 24 hours.

Despite **explicit orders from Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and the Balochistan High Court**, **Sui Southern Gas Company** failed to ensure adequate gas supply and prevent unscheduled load shedding, leaving residents confined to their homes. Citizens are using blankets, warm clothing, and heaters to combat the freezing temperatures, while markets see high demand for **hot tea, soup, and snacks**.

Authorities have **advised residents** to wear warm clothing, use blankets, and avoid unnecessary outdoor activity during cold hours. Calls have also been made to the government and relevant departments to ensure **continuous gas and electricity supply** to provide relief to those affected by the harsh weather.
