Saudi Arabia Issues New Guidelines on Iqama Procedures for Expatriate Workers

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) has issued important instructions regarding iqama (residency permit) regulations for expatriates. According to the announcement, the photograph on the iqama can only be changed if there is a clear and significant difference in facial features that affects identification.

Jawazat clarified that a valid reason is mandatory for requesting a photo update, and no change will be made without proper justification. Applicants must book an appointment at their local Jawazat office, possess a valid passport, and have a new photograph ready for submission.

**Work Visa and Iqama Regulations:**

* Expatriates arriving in Saudi Arabia on a work visa must have their iqama issued within **90 days** of entry.
* Failure to issue the iqama within the stipulated period will result in a **500-riyal fine**.
* A medical examination is mandatory before issuing iqama for new foreign workers, as required under Saudi residency laws.

Jawazat emphasized the importance of adhering to these regulations to avoid penalties and ensure smooth processing of residency procedures.
