National Assembly Approves 27th Constitutional Amendment with Two-Thirds Majority

**Islamabad (Qudrat Daily)** – The National Assembly has approved the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill with additional amendments by a two-thirds majority.

A total of 234 members voted in favor of the amendment, while 4 members voted against it. The amendment, initially passed by the Senate, was presented in the National Assembly with six additional changes proposed by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar. The Assembly approved 59 clauses of the bill clause by clause with a two-thirds majority.

Following the approval of these additional amendments, the bill will be sent back to the Senate for final endorsement.

Prior to the voting, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar met with Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, with other key figures including Naveed Qamar, Sherry Rehman, Murtaza Wahab, and the Attorney General also present. After the meeting, Bilawal stated that the PPP has always faced criticism but emphasized that discussions on the amendment would be addressed in his parliamentary speech.

Minister Tarar explained that any ambiguities regarding the amendment would be discussed in the Assembly. He further clarified that under Article 239, the authority to amend the Constitution lies with Parliament, and the Constitutional Court does not have the power to rewrite it.

Sources indicate that the government is keen on the early establishment of the Federal Constitutional Court following the amendment’s approval. The National Assembly session, chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, witnessed smooth proceedings, paving the way for the historic constitutional change.
