Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM Ali Amin Gandapur Claims Major Success Against Terrorism During His Tenure

Islamabad:Former Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, **Ali Amin Gandapur**, has claimed that coordinated efforts between the **army, police, and local communities** during his tenure led to significant control over terrorism across most parts of the province.
In an interview with *The News*, Gandapur stated that when he assumed office, terrorist activity was widespread, but a **joint strategy with security forces and civilians** cleared most areas of major terror groups. He expressed concern over the recent deterioration in security in some regions but emphasized that **timely and coordinated efforts** could restore peace.
Gandapur highlighted that his government had **earned public support for the army**, enabling a unified front against terrorists, particularly in former FATA areas. He claimed that districts including South and North Waziristan, Bajaur, and Tirah, except a few areas, were cleared of militants under his leadership.
Referring to a notable achievement in **Kurram**, Gandapur said he resolved a century-old tribal and sectarian conflict, resulting in **seven months of complete peace** during the final period of his tenure. However, he expressed regret over the resurgence of violence in Kurram and other areas after leaving office.
Gandapur also touched upon drone strikes, noting that **four strikes occurred during his tenure**, which drew criticism within his party, contrasting it with six drone strikes during Sohail Afridi’s brief 18-day tenure, which allegedly received no attention from PTI leadership or social media channels.
He refrained from commenting on whether he was offered to continue as CM after Imran Khan’s demand for resignations, stating that **not all matters are appropriate for public disclosure**.
This statement underscores Gandapur’s claim that **community-based cooperation with security forces was pivotal** in reducing terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during his administration.
