UK Issues Travel Advisory: Passport Holders Urged to Keep a ‘Backup Plan’

LONDON: The UK Foreign Office has issued new travel guidance for **British passport holders**, advising them to carry a **backup plan** when traveling abroad.

According to international media reports, the advisory recommends that UK citizens should not rely solely on their passports. Travelers are urged to carry an **additional form of photo identification** along with their passport to help in emergencies.

The Foreign Office further advised holidaymakers and business travelers to keep key details — including **accommodation information, flight details, passport number, emergency contacts, and insurance policy documents** — accessible at all times. These should also be shared with trusted friends or family members for added safety.

Officials stressed the importance of having backup documentation, particularly if a traveler’s phone is lost or stolen, as access to such details could prove critical.

The advisory is part of a wider **foreign travel checklist** and emphasizes preparedness for emergencies while abroad.

It is worth noting that following **Brexit**, the UK government had already issued new rules for passport holders, including changes to the validity of red passports.
